Why Kerry isn't president
Bush would have just laughed at the kid.
Better quality video, with crazy post-arrest screaming (the government's gonna kill me!), here.
(Oh, and the crazy guy raises a few good points.)

new tshirt idea
Yes!
I may have this made on cafepress or somewhere. This is just a quick first draft, but I could waste some time perfecting it tomorrow.
we should do this
we should do this. we could become bazillionaires selling these shirts.
I put the design up on cafepress
for the three people who read this.
cafepress.com/fortsanders
No markup, so no bazillions.
don't tase me bro
maybe the holding hands-modified christmas lights experiment wasn't a great idea.
Wow, this has become quite
Wow, this has become quite the internet sensation over the last day and a half. Despite my glib remarks, I do feel sorry for the tased student (filthy Gator that he is), but no more than any of the countless other people similarly, uh, encouraged into compliance by police. At least this guy has all kinds of video evidence of the situation. It even prompted dozens of UF students to take to the streets in protest. Perhaps that's the riot he was supposedly inciting.
Apparently two of the university cops were placed on paid administrative leave pending formal investigation. Which two, I wonder. The one with the taser and his CO? Ah well, now they're getting paid not to tase.
Oh, and Kerry is ever the politician. From his statement on the incident:
I wonder, did he actually answer the guy's questions afterward? Can't find any word on that...
I believe
I believe the saddest part is that the question, about the possibility of the election being stolen, had already been asked. So this guy walked in there, caused a small amount of ruckus, had the law brutalizin' him, and then at the end of the day all of his efforts were nulled out by the fact that the question had already been asked (though I am guessing it wasn't with a quick reading list attached).
I love Kerry's talent for finding politically awkward situations. Ignore the entire 2004 campaign, which could easily be summarized as one long politically awkward moment for Kerry; the guy tries to make a joke and stumbles into insulting troops around the country. He attempts to explain his position on the Iraq war and finds a way to create one of the greatest cliches in the history of politics. The man tries to have an open forum and finds a way to stumble into both an internet meme and the appearance of stifling conversation. He should really have just called it quits on life after he scored the Heinz fortune.
Everytime Bush does something idiotic (like thank OPEC and the Austrians while at the APEC in Australia) I curse Kerry's horrible luck.
Bush has lowered the bar
That's actually the first time I've heard about his A/OPEC Aust(al)ia gaffe. It's sadly not so idiotic in my mind as it is par for the course these days.
I'm not convinced that the past four years would have been much better with Kerry as President. We would still be stuck in an intractable situation in Iraq. Once elected, I find it doubtful he would have had us "pull out" as he and others sort of propose we do now. Stay or leave, we (and of course Iraq) are in for a shitload of trouble years down the line, if not in the meantime.
I'm partly of the mind that it may even be better if another failure-in-waiting Republican is elected to office next year, rather than a completely ineffectual faux progressive like Clinton. I think we're at a point where things must get worse before they get better, and perhaps much worse before they get better. I'd hate to see relatively moderate voters give a "liberal" like Clinton a chance, only to be disappointed and get seduced back into the "conservative" camp.
Of course, none of this may matter a damned bit when the looming oil crisis truly falls upon us. The global warming scare will be remembered as fondly as the Y2K bug at that point, and the Iraq engagement a preamble to wider conflicts.
Non sequitur, but during some file housecleaning today I found this page I ripped from a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac scan several years ago. I love it. Wheee!
